This post marks the first time I have ever added to a previous post rather than cut stuff out with an apology. I thought about this after posting last night and decided this was the only way to add the info and links, and preserve the context. The new stuff starts after the image of the Alberta Education Minister, with Bishop Fred Henry’s letter on the new Alberta Gay-Strait Guidelines for all Alberta schools.
Well, as often happens in my life, I notice something dark in an otherwise normal, provocative insult by some talking head, journalist, academic or other progressive pseudo-intellectual and it just gets the juices flowing.
And lucky for me and my muse, there are just so many of them every damned day, that it takes a whopper to rise my awareness above the anesthetization of the daily progressive drone.
This post touches on the Passion of Christ, and to get some understanding of the Passion and it’s significance to Christians you could do worse that watching the movie “The Passion of the Christ“. Personally, I found it both intense, focused, and very moving. It is not about Christ’s teachings but is narrowly focused on how he suffered and died for our sins and the sins of all the world, and it makes it easy to understand our own sins and failings as contributing to His suffering.
On Passion Sunday, March 14th, 1937, this encyclical of Pope Pius XI , MIT BRENNENDER SORGE, was read from every Catholic pulpit in Nazi Germany on “The Church and the German Reich”. It is a moving and interesting piece of history, freely available to every one with eyes to see and ears to hear.
At the time the German public thought it was all just business as usual in the Reich. Just like right here and now in Canada the public think things are all just business as usual as well. Hey, what’s the big deal? Just go with the flow and don’t rock the boat man, Lets just all go to Timmy’s and cool down.
This encyclical was/is like a clarion call, and reads as fresh today as it did in 1937. Nothing covered up and hidden away like the secret government meetings we are accustomed to here in beaver country, not hidden like some Gnostic rite reserved to the elite, some Cabal in the back rooms of power where there are no minutes, and no recordings, because no record is desired, and with no accountability attributable to any particular three piece suite or group thereof, where the common man is unwelcome and unwanted and all participants can find that Holy Grail of bureaucracy, that is, plausible deniability, in the event that the new policy turns out to be a “Bad Idea”.
This is not to say or imply that each or even any individual “self” has any innate malicious or evil intent, but that the “system” conspires to induce compliance in all the little “selves” adrift without a moral compass or higher Absolute authority to rely on for guidance in a trackless moral wasteland of relativism. The only lighthouse visible to these lost souls, these little “supermen” in their individual fortresses of solitude, is the flickering candle of the tribal campfire, and each in their own loneliness strive for approval and acceptance by doing their best to implement their small portion of “die Endlösung”, the “Final Solution”.

And yet, in these amazing times all the common men and women CAN access this information, anywhere there is internet access, if they care to do so. The chestless ones of NICE, hide in obscurity and anonymity because they want no connection to their evil to mar the smiling face of modern progressivism, but the bright light of the internet shines everywhere regardless of their fondest desires.
The Nazis, in their day, could raid every parish, snapping up every copy of MIT BRENNENDER SORGE in a vain attempt to hide their actions and plans. The National Socialists tried to cover their tracks to no avail. In a previous life (with the DOJ and a very large RHA) I learned by practice how the secular progressive authorities now hide behind “Framework Legislation” and “Guidelines” where all the teeth are hidden in the 1000’s of pages of bureaucratic “regulations” and “notwithstandings” and carefully crafted “loopholes”. It requires energy and some modicum of intelligence to drill down to the foundational intent of modern legislation and regulations. Most folks understandably simply don’t have the resources to ride herd on the Mandarins and have to trust that they really do have the public’s best interests at heart. But …
Anything that was voted into existence by elected representatives can be made to perform any function or even the exact opposite function of that envisioned by those who voted for it, and all without minutes or records to provide an evidentiary trail. So, reading some quotes from “MIT BRENNENDER SORGE” stirs some feelings of familiarity, some recognizable “policy positions”, and being long past 1937 we can see the ancient evil lives on … enshrined in the bureaucracy, now managed just as efficiently as the National Socialist’s “final solution” by the faceless “appointed”, “serve at the pleasure of”, incumbents of corner offices everywhere across this fair land from sea to shining sea.
“The moderation We showed in spite of all this was not inspired by motives of worldly interest, still less by unwarranted weakness, but merely by Our anxiety not to draw out the wheat with the cockle; not to pronounce open judgment, before the public was ready to see its force; not to impeach other people’s honesty, before the evidence of events should have torn the mask off the systematic hostility leveled at the Church. Even now that a campaign against the confessional schools, which are guaranteed by the concordat, and the destruction of free election, where Catholics have a right to their children’s Catholic education” para 5, Mit Brennender Sorge
Would that I could/would personally apply the above paragraph’s sentiments in my daily assessment of the actions and conduct of Public Service leaders and their minions. I think I am going to revisit all 200 or so posts in this blog with an eye to exactly the sort of miscarriage that attributes intentions and malice when nothing more than ignorance or lack of resources or blindly following guidelines would account for the event.
Here’s just one current example as Alberta reaches into parochial education with their fiat directions (Guidelines) regarding the Rainbow Agenda dressed up in various costumes of tolerance. Why are there no information hearings or guidelines relating to the meaning and affects of sodomy? That is, after all, what we are approving and supporting with these guidelines.
Bishop Fred Henry, of Calgary, attracts a lot of vitriol from all the usual suspects but here is his letter regarding Gay-Strait Guidelines. Show me where he is mistaken or wrong. Anybody? … Anybody? Come on class! Is ANYONE paying attention?
This is a massively important propaganda effort and we are letting it slide without any objection! Remember Martin Niemöller (1892–1984). He was a prominent Protestant pastor who emerged as an outspoken public foe of Adolf Hitler and spent the last seven years of Nazi rule in concentration camps. Niemöller is perhaps best remembered for the quotation:
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
We are willingly walking down a slippery slope of moral turpitude and decadence without a single whimper, like Babe’s Mommy and Daddy in the opening scenes of “Babe”, without a single objection being raised in any quarter EXCEPT the Catholic Church, which finds itself under attack for every hiccup.
Start there and then examine the media reported explicit suppression of Catholic education and home schooling in Ontario under the current and previous Ontario governments. And don’t forget “same sex marriage?” whatever that means … check out this link. And how about this:
“Two of the great propaganda achievements of the radical homosexual movement are the now internalized beliefs that they are everywhere and they are just like us.
Many propositions laid the ground work for the change in public opinion from the time homosexuality was openly mocked to today when you can get fired even for poking gentle fun. Much of the polling changes in attitudes about homosexuality are grounded not in acceptance but in this kind of fear.
But, these two—that they are everywhere and just like us—are two monumental but highly effective lies.
Polling data shows that most Americans think homosexuals are far numerous than they really are. Gallup shows that most Americans think that 25 percent of the population is homosexual. Among those dim and dimmer millennials, it is 30 percent. That’s right, they think something on the order of 97 million Americans, including toddlers, are homosexual.
But not even Kinsey with his utterly debunked 10 percent thought homosexuals were so plentiful in the population. In fact, according to the best research—the Laumann study conducted out of the University of Chicago in 1994, and the recently concluded study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control—the true picture is profoundly different.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, a measly 1.8 percent of adult men and 1.4 percent of adult women identify as homosexual. This translates into a tiny 2.1 million men and 1.7 million women. This is less than half the number of Methodists in the United States.
Because they are “everywhere,” a concomitant argument they make is that attitudes have changed because of the personal interaction people have with them. Even a casual look at the numbers would show that those would be some very busy homosexuals.
The adult population of the United States is roughly 247 million.
In order for it to be even remotely true, that it is personal relationships that have changed public opinion, you would have to assume that each of these 3.8 million homosexuals are out of the closet, wearing their homosexuality on their sleeves, and are best buds with 65 non-homosexuals each. So, no, the proposition that they are everywhere is simply not true. And most Americans have hardly any meaningful interaction with homosexuals.
Are they like the rest of us? Certainly. They are children of God, made in his image and likeness, and deserving of their human dignity. But, in the choices they make, in their attractions and in their behavior, and in the results of both, they are profoundly different.
Ruse goes on to discuss Robert Reilly’s new book “Making Gay Okay”.
“Robert Reilly wrote a very important book—Making Gay Okay—that raised the central issue that has been ignored in the messaging of the marriage debate. The marriage debate became about what was best for children. Children certainly do deserve a mother and a father. In fact, they have a human right to know their mother and father, though death and divorce often violate this right. But we cannot deliberately choose to violate this right of theirs. All true and very effective.
Reilly argues, however, that you cannot talk about homosexuals and the changes they propose without talking about that … little thing called sodomy. And this is how they are profoundly different from us. Accepting homosexual marriage is tacit acceptance and even moral approval that anal sex is not only acceptable but that it is comparable to sexual intercourse.
… from Austin Ruse: “I will not discuss what goes into this … act which is widely and almost exclusively practiced by homosexuals and porn stars. Studies show that even homosexuals with the HIV virus still widely use this … practice.
Robert Oscar Lopez, a child of “gays” and now a child rights activist, published a blog post at English Manif a few years ago that went into long and gruesome detail about what this entails. You do not want to know how one prepares for this. It is enough to know that the anus is the body’s sewer, yet homosexuals want us to believe that using it for sexual gratification is exactly the same as intercourse.”
(For a glimpse of Robert Oscar Lopez’s life and work ignore the “community ratings” which are the result of a hate campaign by gays to silence anyone with another view. Hop over to English Manif to get a really good in your face view of the sheer scope of the “gay” hate campaign which surrounds us everywhere.)”
Meanwhile, in other news, Mordor has announced they are ending live Orc shows due to budgetary restrictions. PSAC demonstrations in support of their brother orcs are scheduled for the Legislature grounds in coming months. “The economy is not the issue” leadership stated vehemently.
“It is part of their sacred obligations to do whatever is in their power to enforce respect for, and obedience to, the commandments of God, as these are the necessary foundation of all private life and public morality; to see that the rights of His Divine Majesty, His name and His word be not profaned; to put a stop to the blasphemies, which, in words and pictures, are multiplying like the sands of the desert; to encounter the obstinacy and provocations of those who deny, despise and hate God …” para 12, Mit Brennender Sorge
“… your priests and Faithful, who have persisted in their Christian duty and in the defense of God’s rights in the teeth of an aggressive paganism. Our gratitude, warmer still and admiring, goes out to those who, in fulfillment of their duty, have been deemed worthy of sacrifice and suffering for the love of God.” para 13, Mit Brennender Sorge
So you don’t believe there is an anti-Christian agenda in canada? So how about this month’s cover headline in Mcleans Magazine, THE “flagship” of Canadian “Journalism”. This was the “trigger” encounter which started this response post.
Here I find an article by someone claiming to be a journalist writing for Mcleans magazine. funny thing though, can’t seem to find anything else about him/her anywhere. Is he/she real? Is he a nom du plume? Is he a paid shill for progressive shadow players? Who knows. I guess one has to live in Toronto to get a clue, eh?
Interesting reading, though, for any central Canadian “Brights”, those leading, bleeding edges of secular Progressivism in this country who just can’t seem to stop recycling these old stories debunking Christian beliefs … and why Christians?
Maybe because they know that Christians won’t shoot them or blow them up, or burn them alive, or stone them in the public square, or drown them in cages, or visit their offices for a little tete-a-tete? Do you suppose those considerations don’t enter into the editor’s thoughts when considering provocative material to publish … how about some equal coverage for the other monotheistic religions, eh, Mcleans?
How about it, Brian Bethune? I completely understand, and even sympathize somewhat, with your bread and butter being the provocation of the target audience du jour as vetted by your editors. That is “journalism’s” function, after all, as one thinks about the traditional Broadsheets of yore, they exist to stir things up and see what new smells rise to the top.
I just happen to believe that justice requires treating all players “equally” and “fairly”. These are supposed to be THE Canadian values, right So how about it? Are you going to leave it all up to French Journalists like those at Charlie Hebdo? Would this be too much to ask of Canada’s “National” magazine?
From the front page article in question “There’s a twist in the tale, though, and frailty of human memory turned out to be more profound than Ehrman suspected or, perhaps, welcomed. His eye-opening Jesus Before the Gospels: How the Earliest Christians Remembered, Changed, and Invented Their Stories of the Savior may prove most useful for those who hold to a position Ehrman finds more wrong-headed than insistence on the Bible’s literal truth. The reason Biblical historians cannot find even the outline of a historical Jesus, argues an increasingly persuasive chorus of challengers, is that there is nothing to find: Jesus Christ never lived at all.”
Gee, Brian, or whoever you are, good thing for Mcleans and their staffers that Christians don’t exercise the same policy prerogatives as Islamics. Yup, sure a good thing, that the Christians are the real deal when it comes to the “Religion of Peace”. Love your enemies, turn the other cheek, Father forgive them, they know not what they do. Yup, a real good thing.
On the Way Of The Cross, Benedictines of Mary, Queen of Apostles
Seriously? 2000 or so years on and still they strive stridently to proclaim “There is no God, Christ is a lie!” Even the Roman Empire failed to deny Christ and this country, for all it’s jingoistic bombast trying to ape the American colossus to the south or desperately denying any connection, depending on the party currently in occupation, is but a pale sickly shadow of that famous empire, filled with pale imitations of men called “managers”.
Anyway, here’s some gratuitous “Ad Hominum” in the spirit of “tit-for-tat”. That’s a really interesting article, Brian. Your bio picture is one of 50 shades of grey haired tired compromise, your soul pawned to the highest bidder and the final reckoning coming ever closer regardless of your desperate tap-dancing.
Is that really even a picture of you or is it some special effect photo-shopped in the studio you work in, some “Resident-Evil” twist of zeros and ones. Whatever it is, it’s a good job, well rendered, a kind of brooding dignity in the greying eminence of your brow, the eyes fixed upon the viewer with unwavering judgement. So much more dignified than my own effort on the right.
I wonder what kind of twist the tale of the “Life of Brian” would take if he were to seriously suggest that “Mohammad never lived at all”.
Com’on Brian, how about it, aren’t you still wearing your “Je Suis Charlie” T-Shirt in the copy room these days? Nahh, I didn’t think so. That’s just so “yesterday” right? And who reads Mcleans outside of Toronto anyway? Yea, Toronto, … a pretty safe beat for beating up Christians and Albertans if I do say so.
Cool courage doesn’t get any cooler than this, that one give up his latte to make his deadline. But Islam, … Islam, … that gives you chills now doesn’t it? Islam might reach right into your comfortable inner city Toronto digs and share their pain. Islam, the sibilant sssss just before the sudden ssslam! Yessssss chills. It tickles my dark side, my prescioussss. You just have to respect their commitment to their truth even if you disagree with their methods.
The Banks of Green Willow, Vaughan Williams, London Symphony Orchestra
The Islamics would even agree with Lewis’s quote above, and their belief has teeth! Only a believer could hope to understand another believer. The secular progressives in the high towers today have no clue and even less hope.
So how about “In your country, Venerable Brethren, voices are swelling into a chorus urging people to leave the Church, and among the leaders there is more than one whose official position is intended to create the impression that this infidelity to Christ the King constitutes a signal and meritorious act of loyalty to the modern State. Secret and open measures of intimidation, the threat of economic and civic disabilities, bear on the loyalty of certain classes of Catholic functionaries, a pressure which violates every human right and dignity. ” para 21, Mit Brennender Sorge
It is on faith in God, preserved pure and stainless, that man’s morality is based. All efforts to remove from under morality and the moral order the granite foundation of faith and to substitute for it the shifting sands of human regulations, sooner or later lead these individuals or societies to moral degradation. The fool who has said in his heart “there is no God” goes straight to moral corruption (Psalms xiii. 1), and the number of these fools who today are out to sever morality from religion, is legion.” para 29, Mit Brennender Sorge
What about this article – Gee! Who knew? : “NIAGARA FALLS, Ontario, September 9, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) — New Democrat federal leader Thomas Mulcair is defending his senior communications director after he hit the national spotlight yesterday when two-year-old tweets surfaced in which he viciously attacked the Catholic Church, the pope, and Catholic moral teachings.” and these are the people who are now running Alberta! Questions anyone? Guess who is now writing government policy and guidelines in Alberta? Anyone? Anyone?
But “They either do not see or refuse to see that the banishment of confessional Christianity, i.e., the clear and precise notion of Christianity, from teaching and education, from the organization of social and political life, spells spiritual spoliation and degradation. … To hand over the moral law to man’s subjective opinion, which changes with the times, instead of anchoring it in the holy will of the eternal God and His commandments, is to open wide every door to the forces of destruction.
The resulting dereliction of the eternal principles of an objective morality, which educates conscience and ennobles every department and organization of life, is a sin against the destiny of a nation, a sin whose bitter fruit will poison future generations.” para 29, Mit Brennender Sorge
” … Human laws in flagrant contradiction with the natural law are vitiated with a taint which no force, no power can mend. In the light of this principle one must judge the axiom, that “right is common utility,” a proposition which may be given a correct significance, it means that what is morally indefensible, can never contribute to the good of the people. But ancient paganism acknowledged that the axiom, to be entirely true, must be reversed and be made to say: “Nothing can be useful, if it is not at the same time morally good” (Cicero, De Off. ii. 30). … ” para 30, Mit Brennender Sorge
Waiting On The Night To Fall, Casting Crowns
It has been 13 years since the Netherlands became the first country to legalize euthanasia. In that time, the practice has become legal in Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and in five U.S. states (Washington, Oregon, Vermont, Montana, and New Mexico). At the time I said “It’s coming to Canada too, but Canada always lags the dutch by about ten years”. Because “managers” always want to cover their backsides, don’t rush things, wait ’til the public are “ready” to legalize killing inconvenient grownups eh?
In the first week of February 2016, Canada joined the growing pack, pretty much on schedule for that range of prognostication. Jackals scrounging the scraps left by the Hyenas, except perhaps we are giving Jackals and Hyenas a bad rap here, for they are only fulfilling their proper function in the Divine plan while our masters deny the Divine and have set themselves up as little tin gods unto themselves to run our lives for their own benefit in ever more granular regulations piled upon regulations like the Scribes and Pharisees of old.
In a previous post I linked to David Warren posting this: “the Ottawa government’s impending “euthanasia” legislation. This our parliament was ordered to write and pass by Canada’s supreme court: a junto of nine who are a law unto themselves. The parliamentary committee discussing the matter, now dominated by the liberal party, has made recommendations such as forcing all doctors and other medical staff to participate in the killings; and arranging for children and the mentally ill to be terminated on the advice of one “care giver” or another. It is a monstrous, unambiguously evil measure they are contemplating — which, like abortion, targets the defenseless”.
Aki, Inner Thoughts, Rodrigo Rodriguez
Although the new ruling states that all patients in Canada are entitled to a physician-assisted suicide, their condition must meet certain criteria for them to eligible. For example, the law (yet unwritten) states that “patients must be of adult age and must be assessed by a doctor to be mentally competent and capable of giving consent“, Common Dreams reported.
How can “Common Dreams” report on laws which have yet to be written or enacted or on regulations yet to be written and implemented? This statement just serves to give cover to the faceless ones while they work their evil.
But, as John Ralston Saul pointed out, in “Voltaire’s Bastards“, the Devil is in the Regulations, and those who write the Briefing Books run the show. Whatever one’s views or thoughts, it is a grim fact that, in canada, it is now legal to kill inconvenient citizens, and inconvenient children, not just inconvenient babies. Remember, “Arbeit macht frei“. You think these things cannot happen here? I was born in and lived in Montreal for years. I experienced the October Crisis, and Papa Trudeau’s respect for Rule of Law, up close and personal. Je me souviens.
“Like other periods of the history of the Church, the present has ushered in a new ascension of interior purification, on the sole condition that the faithful show themselves proud enough in the confession of their faith in Christ, generous enough in suffering to face the oppressors of the Church with the strength of their faith and charity.
May the holy time of Lent and Easter, which preaches interior renovation and penance, turn Christian eyes towards the Cross and the risen Christ; be for all of you the joyful occasion that will fill your souls with heroism, patience and victory.
Then We are sure, the enemies of the Church, who think that their time has come, will see that their joy was premature, and that they may close the grave they had dug. The day will come when the Te Deum of liberation will succeed to the premature hymns of the enemies of Christ …” para 42, Mit Brennender Sorge
We look out across a landscape of declining morality, the tragedy of moral relativity, where the value of a human being is in their perceived utility and if they fail the litmus test of utility they are disposed of and sold for parts.
Our own visions of “Soylent Green” dance through our heads as we trundle off to the re-education camps being set up by the famous twins separated at birth. Or perhaps we are only looking at a simple Good Cop, Bad Cop routine … “take me or you will have to take him”. I don’t know, what do you think?
There are some sinister overtones and similarities, ne’cest pas? On the one hand we have a villain born of a bloodline of villains according to international opinion, an utterly failed economy, a population held in terror of the state, and holding office by virtue of son-ship. A Great Leader unanimously condemned on all sides, with only one significant player abstaining, and that player having a close and special relationship with Canada and Canada’s government.
The Prince On The White Horse, John Albert Thomas
In counterpoint to the bad actor, we have, home at last in 24 Sussex Drive, the Drama Coach. Also holding office buy virtue of pedigree, a playboy with a silver spoon and a Mercedes and a projected 100+ billion deficit over the next 5 years, and a population without a true voice in the Capital or in the state controlled national media.
Well, that’s about as far as even I can stretch the similarities, but you get the drift, right? China vs Justin? Hmmmm. Methinks the Communist Party of China is a much heavier hitter than Senator Brazeau. Do we see Justin going the distance with Xi and Vlad, hmmm?
A charming class clown who no-one on the international stage takes seriously as he sucks up to virtually every regime out there in a desperate bid for acceptance of his handlers and their policies, no longer the cool kid in class, the snowboarder seeks approval. And there is of course that famous, or perhaps infamous, family tradition of sleeping with murderers. Maybe that’s an asset in Boy Justin’s world.
There was a man once, who said: “plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose“, Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr (24 November 1808 – 29 September 1890) was a French critic, journalist, and novelist. His epigrams are frequently quoted, and that “plus ca change” line is one of his best.
Another was on a proposal to abolish capital punishment, “je veux bien que messieurs les assassins commencent” “let the gentlemen who do the murders take the first step”, or “I wish the assassins to go first”, a view which I share. Are we not on the brink of a bold new social experiment? After first hand witness to the fall-out of Roe vs Wade, can we not imagine where this will end?
To paraphrase Karr, with respect to euthanasia, “je veux bien que messieurs les bureaucrats commencent”. Not much has changed since 1937, Just the level of sophistication of the players and the level of ignorance of the voters.
I’ll end this very long post with a reference to Mark Mallet’s blog post of today.
“As more and more people are waking up to the growing persecution of the Church, this writing addresses why, and where it’s all heading. First published December 12th, 2005, … “
Always remember, “be charitable in your judgements, never take yourself too seriously” and of course “Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.”
Sometimes when I post, I look at my sig and wish that I’d follow my own damned advice.
