This is my hypotheses, adopted to explain why … why the conflict, why the suffering, why the massive cognitive dissonance, why the duplicity, why the immorality and evil everywhere, why the corruption so deeply embedded in every human endeavour?
The hypothesis is “None of this matters. It is simply, in the long view, unimportant.” With a nod to Frank Herbert, it is because “God created This World to train the Faithful, and to test us”. When looked at from that point of view it all makes perfect sense.
David Warren had a perfectly delightful post this morning here.
Why doesn’t it make sense? Why does our culture, our “society”, insist on ignoring reality in favour of a schmaltzy, pseudo sincere, “concern” for just about any event. The media grief machine gets cranked back up every time an event in “the real world” impacts the fantasy world of the “sensible” progressives worshiping at the pool.
In any other age this society would be rightly recognized as exhibiting pure insanity in its behaviors. And of course “Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad”, a phrase spoken by Prometheus in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow‘s poem, “The Masque of Pandora” (1875).
“To the fool, he who speaks wisdom will sound foolish”, and “When good men die their goodness does not perish, but lives though they are gone. As for the bad, all that was theirs dies and is buried with them”.
Sometimes when I post, I look at my sig and wish that I’d follow my own damned advice.
