“Ballad Of A Thin Man”, Bob Dylan, from the album “Highway 61 Revisited”, (1965)
Well, like every day in a life, there are good things and bad things. I finally got around to sorting email and reading the important ones, and answering the really important ones … 150 emails a day really starts to pile up if you don’t look at them every couple of days. Things are finally starting to settle down here in the Shire and it looks like “the authorities” may be starting to relax all the state imposed restrictions of freedom of meeting and association and all that stuff.
The plague has claimed no victims in our county, and there is some light at the end of the tunnel. It looks like the authorities have realized (in a classic corner office “DUH!” moment) that the most important victim of the Great Red Bat Flu Pandemic of 2020 has been the economy … destroyed utterly by all the restrictions to movement and social distancing.
Thankfully, there are noises in all the usual places about starting to relax all the restrictions in a “phased in” sort of way because we all know that biological agents respond well to government restrictions and we wouldn’t want to upset them by “freeing the prisoners” too fast.
Of course, it will never go back to what once was ’cause governments never give up whatever power they grab. And then there is Calgary, in which, Social Media, claims there is no relaxing.
Reports out of the east have it that the fines imposed by police for “social distancing” crimes in Ontario and Quebec are now over 6 Million dollars and still climbing, with Toronto and Montreal grabbing the lion’s share of “Social Distancing” revenue.
This has been accepted totally by the residents of those fair lands because, after all, it’s all “for our own protection” Right? If folks accepted “photo-radar” they will certainly accept “social distancing”.
“Normal” implies “norms” of which our polite society has been completely devoid of for nigh on 30 years now. Going back to “normal” simply isn’t in anyone’s future in Canada. Remember “Woodstock”? That was a cultural monument to personal freedom and choices, wasn’t it?
It literally took place in the middle of the Great Hong Kong Flu pandemic of 1968 and 1969. Hong Kong Flu was a much greater killer that Red Bat Flu … and not a soul ever suggested restricting anything.
Because Hong Kong Flu wasn’t a very bad flu by world standards … just another flu season, that killed “weakened” victims as well as some of the young and even children. No biggy. Sigh … I think the sky is falling … NO! wait … that was yesterday.
I remember as a child and teenager, my grandfather telling stories of the “Spanish” flu which killed a couple of family members (his sisters) in Halifax, and is reported to have killed somewhere between 17 million and 50 million people worldwide (precision in statistics wasn’t a thing back then either). It was called “Spanish” flu because it was wartime and the press were censored and not allowed to report on anything except in neutral Spain.
There is a lot of evidence that this flu actually originated in (wait for it!) China and was transmitted by Chinese workers, but the Wickedpedia makes sure to tell us that there is a body of publications by China and others explaining why that was impossible. Things haven’t changed much in the last hundred years, have they?
All sort of in jest …right? But I will point to some links showing how that is starting to unfold in Europe and no doubt it will spread here in a very real pandemic of bureaucratic totalitarian strangulation. Check out the enlightening article at this site.
We always lag Europe by a couple or so years before we start “controversial” programs here. The links in the French Public Schools article go to the French Government’s instructions about how to run the schools as they re-open, and they take you to PDF’s which are in French. I guess there were some good after-effects of the Quebec Education system of the 60’s since I can still read French, but you might run it through GOOGLE Translate? Unless of course you too were a victim of the “Quiet Revolution”. In which case you remember everything and won’t have any problems, right?
So how are things in the ROC?
That Mayo Clinic article which a reader sent to me, is a very reasonable article. I like it because it clearly, and in detail, lists the mainstream health system’s “opinions” on vitamin supplements in general and Niacin in particular. The opening argument is: “most people get enough niacin from the food they eat. Foods rich in niacin include yeast, milk, meat, tortillas and cereal grains.”.
This has been an unconsidered reply to any question about vitamins for over a hundred years now and is simply untrue. The current public health response to vitamin deficiency disease is :”There is no problem … we are following the guidelines, here you stupid, uneducated, whiny patient, take these expensive drugs for your psychosomatic problems and come back in a month so we can bill again”. After all, it’s all “FREE”, right?
We’ve been here all along, people, think about Cancer and all the success we have had “curing” that killer. I am always interested in new information streams regarding health and fitness. For several years now I have been following up on and reading about Cancer as a metabolic disease rather than a genetic disease. I wrote about it here under the topic of “Models that work“. I also mentioned this here, and here, and here, and here.
I have personal friends and close relatives who have died of cancer. I have a great personal interest in this killer and the politics and economics swirling around it. Just think about it for a bit … AND I have close personal friends and customers, and my own ever-lovin’ self who are, or were, actually suffering from what now appear to be deficiency diseases rather than “normal” diseases of aging.
The elephant in the room when it comes to cancer is our Research and Medical treatment system’s extraordinary failure to make any progress in 50 years of “War on Cancer”.
With literally billions sunk into this bottomless hole of terror we still routinely accept that something like 98% pf cancer sufferers won’t last 5 years. This appears to me (in my Homer Simpson simplicity) to indicate that the current model is NOT WORKING, (DUH!) and we are simply barking up the wrong tree.
It is not a stretch to conclude that there are other interests wedded to this model and keeping us on this track rather than a genuine desire to cure cancer. Would we need a Department of Health if everyone was healthy? Hmmmm.
There is now another elephant in the room … GEE! it’s getting really crowded in here! We are more and more realizing that the same model that is used for “Cancer Cures”, also applies to deficiency diseases. There is not a shred of research published anywhere to back it up. It is the “opinion” of some anonymous faces in the food chain of our academic and health bureaucracy.
Our processed food supply and our farming methods have so depleted our soils that natural levels of nutrients in processed foods and unprocessed fruits and vegetables are dramatically insufficient for the health of consumers.
No-one today can rely on our grocery store foods to get healthy levels of nutrients. And there is no standard human requirement for these nutrients. The “recommended daily allowance” is just the opinion of someone in the nutritional establishment needing to plug some value into a briefing note. there is no “science” involved except in using the word “science” in the justifications to make readers feel safe(r). Everyone is different and some require high and even very high amounts and some require less.
We are all “outliers”. But the mathematical use of statistics and such are way different from normal day to day uses of stats as employed by government and media.
In fact, by any definition the actual use of statistical “science” to find truth is in and of itself an “outlier”. Think about that one for a minute and you might realize that the “outliers” might be the only “correct” data points, hmmm.
Manipulating statistics with imagery, implication, innuendo, and allusion, and just plain good ol’ falsehoods is the essence and lifeblood of propaganda, and accounts for about 90% of all government news releases and media reports (did you catch the misuse of statistics in that line?).
Case: The retail vitamin supplements available in grocery and drug stores provide a reasonably detailed list of what is required, but the recommended daily allowances are simply pulled out of the air in amounts that can have no conceivable effect on the consumer all the while protecting the asses of the bureaucrats who approve these “recommended” allowances,
Warnings can be “nuanced”. I especially liked the way The Mayo Clinic worded the “warning” about Diabetes medications: “If you have diabetes, niacin can interfere with blood glucose control. You might need to adjust the dose of your diabetes drugs.” Another way of referring to the same phenomenon would be: “Regular daily dose of 3 grams of Niacin reduces excess blood glucose therefore requiring reduction or complete elimination of Diabetes medications as a medical necessity.”
What isn’t published anywhere except in the fine print regarding Doners to, and Owners of, the Mayo Clinic, is where the funding comes from and the “unbiased” medical agenda underlying their operation.
Coincidentally Niacin also reduces blood pressure and the levels of dangerous cholesterol much better and more safely than the current regime of guidelines recommended patented drugs and for a fraction of the cost.
My own doctor, who is very much a “guidelines” gospel believer, has acknowledged with a frown and a shrug that I am no longer diabetic, no longer have high blood pressure, no longer have cholesterol problems and have a normal lipid profile and a better range of motion and much less pain in my joints. And sleeping well … blessed sleep … thank you very much Niacin.
Case in point is that I noticed this morning while coming down the stairs to work that I had absolutely no pain in my knees or hips and was completely flexible with good balance. That is a big change from two years ago when I was in such pain that I thought the next medical event in my life would be knee and hip replacements like my older aunts and grandparents.
So … when I look at my health life since January 2017 I see large improvements in my health. In short, I was fat and dying of all the usual killers, Heart Disease, Diabetes, and joint deterioration. Now I have lost over 40 pounds of fat, and moved from a future that held Insulin for my Diabetes, ACE Inhibitors for my Cholesterol problems, joint replacements for my failing knees and hips, and drugs for blood pressure and for anxiety problems and sleep disruptions.
Now, by every measure and lab test, I am completely healthy, with none of the above problems, and not on any medication. I am brighter, more rested, thinking clearly and optimistic for the future at least half the time (well, I am still aging, and old guys do get down about getting old from time to time even if they are healthy).
And I did it myself, by not following my doctors advice, and taking the drugs but rather by changing my diet and supplements. This has been a three year process of blood testing and examination and re-examination.
My doctor also complains, “But my patients want an instant fix without having to change any of their lifestyle habits. What am I to do? The drugs help for a while, and they are approved by the “guidelines. So I follow the guidelines.” When I ask him “Do You Take The Drugs?” The answer is “No, but…”
After reading several books, including the title I mentioned in a previous post, Niacin: The Real Story: Learn about the Wonderful Healing Properties of Niacin – October 9, 2015 by Abram Hoffer M.D. Ph.D. (Author), Andrew W. Saul Ph.D. (Author), Harold D. Foster (Author), my conclusion is that the use of naturally occurring non-patentable Niacin is only actually a big threat to Drug Companies profit picture.
Of course depending on just health books runs the risk of killing myself with a misprint, but I never rely on just one book or just one source, and my wife and I do a LOT of digging and are very careful with everything we try.
Everyone is different, we are all outliers. There is no scientifically proven “standard” for nutrition that applies to all humans, and “daily recommended allowances are simply the opinion of the writers with no basis in research.
The start of this new health path for me was to STOP taking things (like food – otherwise known as “fasting”) and then try to find what worked and what was problematic in the whole food arena, a kind of “Trial by Error” with an “N” of 1.
The other big encouraging event in our lives was my daughter being able to “cure” her Bipolar disease, by weaning herself off of all psych meds over a period of two years, and adopting a regimen of nutrient supplements through “True Hope”.
So, we continue to soldier on here in the Shire, and business is steady because folks need to get their drugs (irony alert!) and we are considered “essential” along with Alcohol and Cannabis, and grocery stores.
We have to stay aware of the fact that none of this life style change provides an “instant fix”, it takes months and years of persistent change to see the results, but all the information is out there if you are willing to search and read broadly. So thank God for His blessings and take the long view – Eternity is real.
Here’s another couple or three more interesting books, one of which is unfortunately is not available on Kindle, but I ordered a hard copy anyway, Goldberger’s War by Alan M. Kraut ,
Goldberger’s War is the story of one of the U.S. Public Health Service’s most renowned heroes–an immigrant Jew who trained as a doctor at Bellevue, became a young recruit to the federal government’s health service, and ended an American plague, Pellagra.
At the same time Canadian “authorities” banned his nutrient based solution allegedly because they didn’t want to “adulterate” our wheat flour. Instead, they chose to keep the Pellagra because it wasn’t as serious a problem here as it was in the the United States. I wonder who they blamed for that one … Trump wasn’t even born yet?????
Anyway, the second book is: “The Orthomolecular Treatment of Chronic Disease“. This is a GREAT BOOK. At 800 pages, The Orthomolecular Treatment of Chronic Disease is a very large book, but it is also a very practical book. If you want to know which illnesses best respond to nutrition therapy, and how and why that therapy works, this is the book for you.
Part One presents the principles of orthomolecular medicine and the science behind them. Part Two is devoted to orthomolecular pioneers, presenting an introduction to maverick doctors and nutrition scientists in a reader-friendly way that brings the subject to life. Part Three brings together extraordinary clinical and experimental evidence from expert researchers and clinicians.
And, third, last but not least in my library of new books is also a hard copy of Jason Fung’s new book: Life in The Fasting Lane.
I’ve talked glowingly about Dr. Fung before because his method has had such a life saving effect on my own existence so I will leave that to his blog site. I had to order it from Amazon.ca because Amazon.com wouldn’t ship a hard copy to Canada.
Of course, always remember my disclaimer here.
You can always find an upside even in a bad situation. Never Give Up, Never Give Up, Never Give Up!
