Life in a small town

Rights … Responsibilities … Reality …

“Waiting On The Night To Fall”, by “Casting Crowns”, from the album “Thrive” (2014)

Lots of upset people these days.

It doesn’t make any sense! …

“I have rights!” … “It’s not right!” … “It doesn’t make any sense!” … “The restrictions are more dangerous than the flu!” … “This is crazy!” … “Bloody government is never going to wake up!” … “It’s the economy that’s dying!” … “When are we going to get back to normal?” … “The people dying are all old folks who would have died anyway!” …  “It’s just the GD flu!” … “My wife was just admitted to hospital and they won’t let me see her!”

Lots of outrage and dissent across my counter these days. But really people, what did you expect? Do you really think you have any rights? Perhaps not, … thinking, that is.

Up here in our many little Canadas we have a Charter of Rights and Freedoms, granted by the benevolence of Papa Doc Trudeau (the late, unlamented, father of Boy Justin the Sock Puppet, popping up daily from his cottage to speak moistly at us … but no singing … singing is strictly out! Too forceful don’t-cha know, – spreading the moistly too far … sigh…).

That Charter of “Freedoms” enshrined our perpetual slavery to the whims of our betters in the halls of power. It spells out what we are “permitted” to do, “subject to such limits” as may occur to our masters from time to time.

Bimbo in a Hockey Jersey …

The Charter overwrote our inherited constitution, which was rooted in British Common Law descended through many centuries of tradition, and it worked as well as anything humans have used to structure society. It was a sort of semi-written, semi-traditional, Q R & O’s for civilians, looser and less precise than the regulations and orders governing the military for the last several hundred years.

British Common Law balanced the demands of the elite against the needs of the little folks in a rather even minded way down through the generations. A hierarchy of needs, rights, obligations and responsibilities, developed organically over long years of experience rather than by fashionable fiat and the “Monday Blahs”.

Social Distancing Enforcers and Informers rallying in Toronto …

Forty years ago we left that safe stable establishment and with much pomp and hoopla threw away all that stupid stuff inherited from our forefathers, choosing a Franco Totalitarian Model rooted in the French Revolution and assorted Communist regimes.

By this “deal” we exchanged a system of “everything which is not expressly forbidden is permitted” for a system of “everything that is not expressly permitted is forbidden … subject to the changing whims of our betters“.

So how’s that working out for Y’all, eh?

To paraphrase David Warren, animals have rights, under the law of the jungle. I approve of these, insofar as I approve of life on this planet. Hunters have rights, because they also are animals, and under the new regime, in our modern secular paradise we are all just animals, are we not?

BANG! An accident of random selection

An accident of random selection I am told, evolving into self referential god-hood.

And the bureaucratic predators have rights, thanks to our “sheepdogs”, the soldiers and police, for as long as the dogs are willing to obey the predators, and we have seen numerous times what happens when the dogs stop being willing to obey … military dictatorships seem to be one of the more common “rules of law” that humans come up with … backing the strong horse and all that.

And even the sheep have rights, for starters, they have the right to get as fat as possible until their time for utility arrives.

evolving into self referential god-hood

And then, they have the right to stand helplessly waiting for the arrival of the predators whenever the mood takes them, the right to do as they are instructed.

And now they have the right to say what they are allowed to say, in a PC way, and lately, more and more, the right to think whatever the government and the Social Media pundits approve of.

Take off the goggles of willful disbelief … it all actually makes perfect sense once you abandon the fantasy that this is all about keeping us healthy. It’d clearly about control, not viruses, and makes perfect sense through that lens. Listen to your masters you sheeple … well, there are none so blind, etc. etc.

Here below is a YouTube clip of a little homily from one of our more stellar actors, laying it on the line, all in character of course, and the irony is that the writers are trying to provoke outrage in the viewers and instead have hit the nail precisely on the head.

Or maybe that was their intent all along and they are pointing at every political player on the planet and yelling “THE EMPEROR IS NAKED!” You can’t always tell with media people and entertainers, just who is the target.

Yup … everything is on Netflix now, right … and sometimes, for a brief moment they nail it … then they just drift off down the road of life, deviance and despair, the fifty shades of moral relativism.

“House of Cards”, “Altered Carbon”, “Game of Thrones”, “Stranger Things”, … all started out good (or at least interesting) and then quickly descended into a cesspool of perversion, deviance and downright evil, all dressed up as “entertainment” with nice costumes and makeup …. just keep the sheeple distracted until we can tip them over the edge.

I prefer the narrative found in Psalm 39:

I Said, “I will be watchful of my ways,
for fear I should sin with my tongue;
I will put a curb on my lips,
when the wicked man stands before me”
I was dumb, silent and still
His prosperity stirred my grief.

My heart was burning within me;
At the thought of it, the fire blazed up
and my tongue burst into speech:
O LORD, you have shown me my end,
how short is the length of my days.
Now I know how fleeting is my life.

 Behold, Thou hast made my days as handbreadths,
And my lifetime as nothing in Thy sight,
Surely every man at his best is a mere breath. .
Surely every man walks about as a phantom;
Surely they make an uproar for nothing;
He amasses riches, and does not know who will gather them.

And now, Lord, for what do I wait?
My hope is in Thee.
Deliver me from all my transgressions;
Make me not the reproach of the foolish.

I have become dumb, I do not open my mouth,
Because it is Thou who hast done it.
Remove Thy plague from me;
Because of the opposition of Thy hand, I am perishing.

With reproofs Thou dost chasten a man for iniquity;
Thou dost consume as a moth what is precious to him;
Surely every man is a mere breath.

Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear to my cry;
Do not be silent at my tears;
For I am a stranger with Thee,
A sojourner like all my fathers.

Turn Thy gaze away from me, that I may smile again,
Before I depart and am no more.”

Not many smiles to be had here this morning, but there is a little laugh to be had over at David Warren’s latest, especially the very last paragraph “A HAPPY RECOLLECTION“.
