A Prophet Speaks …

“Prophet” –  The English word is taken directly from an ancient Greek noun which literally meant “to speak for” or “on behalf of.” Thus the noun embraced the concept of speaking for someone, or a spokesman. Of course, part and parcel of the “prophet” role is suffering.

It seems that prophets are rarely popular people, drawing pointed attention to the shortcomings and failings and outright evil conduct of both leaders and peoples, the elite and the masses as referred to in an earlier post. It is always and everywhere considered more prudent and, for that matter just plain easier to shoot the messenger than to take on the difficult task of amending one’s conduct.

We should be grateful that in our society, in this day and age, “trouble makers” are not usually executed but rather rendered redundant and released from service for “not being team players”. It is not like that everywhere, even in our own times.  So what does a prophet see before him? …

The vision of the prophet concerning the Western Kingdom, which he received in the reign of Mammon, King of the West.  Listen, all you nations; heavens and earth, attend, for the prophet is speaking, ‘I have reared children and brought them up, but they have rebelled against me. The beasts know their owner and the cattle their master’s barn; the nations do not know, the people do not understand.

Disaster, sinful nation, people weighed down with guilt, a race of wrong-doers, perverted children! They have abandoned Truth, despised the Master, they have turned away from him. Where shall He strike you next, if you persist in this treason, this turning away?

The whole head is sick, the whole heart is diseased, from the sole of the foot to the head there is nothing healthy: only wounds, bruises and open sores not dressed, not bandaged, not soothed with ointment, your countries are a desolation, your towns are ashes, your soil is laid waste before your eyes, a desolation like devastation by foreigners, everywhere the Enemy is triumphant.

The daughter of the West is left like a slum in a barren field, like a shed in a burned forest, like a city besieged.  Had the Master not left us a remnant, we should be like Sodom, we should be the same as Gomorrah.

Now modern culture vaguely associates Sodom and Gomorrah with bad behaviour, and the names have been used as metaphors for vice and homosexuality (not very modern PC, eh?) viewed historically as a deviation. The story has given rise to words in several languages, including the English word sodomy, used in sodomy laws to describe a sexual “crime against nature”.

That crime consisting of anal or oral sex, either homosexual or heterosexual, or sexual activity between a person and a non-human animal (bestiality). So we Pooh-Pooh the old “fairy-tale”, “BS!” as an atheist friend of mine is fond of declaring anytime he hears or reads anything that doesn’t fit his social mores. “Eppur si muove“.

The sins of the modern Western Kingdom are seen, by anyone with eyes, to be adultery, lying, strengthening the hands of evildoers, oppressing the poor and crushing the needy, pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness is in her (“The Western Kingdom”) and in her daughters (satellite nations?), neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

And while we are at it lets throw in fornication, uncleanness, covetousness, envy, calumny, obscenity, foolish talk and scurrility, pornography – both adult and child, pedophilia, prostitution – both male and female, sadism & masochism (all 50 shades), drug abuse, drunkenness, gambling, abortion and all forms of infanticide, euthanasia and all forms of murder, and finally, unbelief — all the causes dear to the Progressive Left, the new Pharisees (see “Mercy Vans”  for the latest nihilistic trauma), and their drum-beat for rights without responsibility.

And they are haughty, and practice or excuse deviant behaviour before me. Why are some actions “taboo” or perhaps looked at or excused as “foreign religious practice”? Hmmm… don’t need fairy tales, just look outside your own door.

The Master says “Bring no more futile offerings, the smoke from them fills me with disgust. New Moons, Sabbaths, assemblies — I cannot endure solemnity combined with guilt.  Your New Moons and your meetings I utterly detest; to me they are a burden I am tired of bearing.

When you stretch out your hands I turn my eyes away. You may multiply your prayers, I shall not be listening. Your hands are covered in blood, wash, make yourselves clean. Take your wrong-doing out of my sight. Cease doing evil. Learn to do good, search for justice, discipline the violent, be just to the orphan, plead for the widow.

Come, let us talk this over,’ says the Master. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.  If you are willing to obey, you shall eat the good things of the earth.  But if you refuse and rebel, the sword shall eat you instead — for the Master’s mouth has spoken.’

The Kingdom of the West, what a harlot she has become! The daughters once full of fair judgement, where saving justice used to dwell, but now assassins! Your silver has turned into dross, your wine is watered. Your princes are rebels, accomplices of brigands. All of them greedy for presents and eager for bribes, they show no justice to the orphan, and the widow’s cause never reaches them.

But we have removed the Prime Mover as the top authority. No longer do we regard ourselves as subject to authority but every man exerts himself in the worship and fulfillment of self … and self delusion.

We move from a “guilt” based culture and society, where we know ourselves to be prone to evil and guard ourselves even when alone, towards a “shame” based culture and society where all that matters is that we keep our evil secret – hide our faces – use proxies – where every failure and every disappointment are the fault of others or the fault of some vast faceless conspiracy.

We daily use tools and technology and devices and methods and systems we could never produce ourselves and then revile the people who invented and produce and maintain these tools and systems.  Our goals and ambitions are wrapped up with that which harms others. No longer do we deal face to face with anyone but always behind a facade – behind which we reduce everyone else to ciphers, and thus dehumanized they can be abused and disposed of at our convenience.

Hence, the Master, the Mighty One, says this, ‘Disaster, I shall get the better of my enemies, I shall avenge myself on my foes.  I shall turn my hand against you, I shall purge your dross as though with potash, I shall remove all your alloy. and I shall restore your judges as at first, your counselors as in bygone days, after which you will again be called Kingdom of Saving Justice, Faithful City.’

The daughters o f the West will be redeemed by fair judgement, and those who return, by saving justice. Rebels and sinners alike will be destroyed, and those who abandon the Master will perish. How ashamed you will be of the oaks and terebinths which gave you such delight; and how you will blush for the gardens which you chose!

For you will be like a terebinth with faded leaves, like a garden without water; the strong will become like tinder, his work like the spark; both will go up in flames together, with no one to put them out.

We neglect history to our peril. Cultures and nations have always fallen when they abandon morality and justice. Some fall from internal rot, some are overwhelmed by outside invaders, others are nibbled to death by the teeth of a thousand rats until there is no recognizing the place. We can simply be bred out of existence by a more robust population. Anyone fancy an Islamic Republic of the West?

No matter what we spout off about our superiority, our power, and our “rights”, we will simply and inevitable be overwhelmed in a tsunami of bodies from cultures who are willing and able to make the sacrifices to have children and protect them and raise them.

If we do not fix our problems, our deviant evils, our hatred and murder of children, our devaluation of our fellows, our self centered egotism and narcissism, then we are so done! We may as well hop into the grinder ourselves.
