Fake News and Evil in Action … The “Knowledge” of Our Family

FLASH!!!   Stop The Press!!!! No … Wait! That’s them not us.  Do we even use presses in the media any more? Whatever …

We just witnessed in living color, the frothing insanity of the media in a recent, almost real-time example, of the pervasive malice of the Progressive Left and their media lap dancers, lap dogs … no  wait a minute, that’s just a vile insult to dancers and dogs. Lets just settle on “scum sucking bottom feeders” and fill in our own image of corrupt evil.

We are all bombarded with this sort of media coverage every day of anything that seems to support the Liberal narrative, with all their propaganda, outright lies, fake news, hatred, and pure evil in action. This particular item is the narrative and the edited coverage accorded the alleged confrontation between some Catholic youth attending the March For Life in Washington DC and an aboriginal man from Omaha.

The Left-wing Media (AKA the MSM) and their owners and handlers will literally do anything and say anything as long as they can portray Christians, and especially Catholics, in a bad light.

The actual story is starting to come out now with at least one reporting example of real journalism found at The Washington Examiner where new details about a viral video that showed an interaction between white teenagers wearing “Make America Great Again” hats and a Native American. These new details are leading many people on all sides of the issue to second-guess their first impression of the encounter …

The link is here: “Rush To Judgement …

Such malice in action is no surprise to anyone on the religious right … we have been suffering this sort of treatment by the established secular society in Canada and the U.S. for years now.  Meanwhile, another perspective on our modern lives sheds light on how this sort of media malice happens, and the fact that Truth may someday prevail, or not, it’s all in GOD’s hands and unfolds according to His plan …

The knowledge of GOD in which eternal life consists, as Jesus has said, is not the kind of knowledge which stops at the enlightenment of our intellects, but knowledge which stirs up our wills to love the GOD whom we know, and which regulates our whole life so that it is pleasing to Him. Consequently, when Jesus has brought us to the knowledge of the Father, He then teaches us what we must do to please Him: “Be ye therefore perfect as your  heavenly Father is perfect” (Mt 5, 48).

In this brief formula, the divine Teacher reveals two great truths: GOD is the model of sanctity, because He alone is the fullness of perfection, free from every shadow of fault or failing; secondly, GOD’s will in our regard is that we also be perfect, which we shall be according to the degree in which we try to imitate GOD’s perfection“. (Fr. Gabriel of St. Mary Magdalen, O.C.D. from the book “Divine Intimacy” Meditations on the interior life for every day of the liturgical year.pp 149).

And we are each and everyone of us, both the good and the evil, a dwelling place of the spirit of GOD, more or less, as we adhere to His precepts and strive to do His will. We are all on a journey either to heaven or to hell, even those who refuse to accept the Truth are willy-nilly on the same journey as those who believe.

The only difference is that non-believers (of any sort) have willingly given up any chance of picking their final destination when the ride comes to its inevitable end. We choose to believe or to not believe. GOD doesn’t punish anyone. We choose our destination.

“It is a serious thing, to live in a society of possible gods and goddesses, to remember that the dullest and most uninteresting person you talk to may one day be a creature which, if you saw it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship, or else a horror and a corruption such as you now meet, if at all, only in a nightmare. All day long we are, in some degree, helping each other to one or another of those destinations”. (C.S. Lewis, in The Weight of Glory: pg. 15)

Fires In Montana …

Winterborn“, Cruxshadows, from the album “Ethernaut, (2003).

I didn’t wake up cranky today. Things just sort of “evolved” that way. And if it is “Evolution” it just has to be OK, right? Can any one say: “Empirical evidence that huge Media Bias Exists, no matter what the MSM may protest”.

Montana Fires, 2017

Montana Fires, 2017

(GREAT FALLS) The 2017 fire season in Montana has been devastating for many people and communities, and as of September 6th, more than one million acres of land has burned.

The figure comes from the Northern Rockies Coordination Center, which is part of the National Interagency Fire Center.

More than 4,000 firefighters have been involved in the battle against the fires this season; two of them lost their lives fighting fires in western Montana.

and

Glacier National Park, Montana, 2017

Glacier National Park, Montana, 2017

On the Senate floor Wednesday, both of Montana’s senators gave 10-minute speeches about wildfires in Montana . “Climate change is real, and we can’t continue to sit on the sidelines,” Democratic Senator Jon Tester said. Republican Senator Steve Daines focused on, “The mis-management of our federal forests, and these radical environmentalists.” Both Daines and Tester talked about Montana’s fires in the context of the nation’s attention being primarily on hurricanes at the moment.

*****

It’s not often that NPR makes the grade and gets mentioned in one of my posts. In this case they do so simply because of their willingness to present ANY coverage of the Montana wildfires. A Google search only turned up one other local affiliate of NBC presenting one news report with graphics.

Fort McMurray, Alberta, 2016

Fort McMurray, Alberta, 2016

ALL the rest of the coverage is by local media in Montana. I guess that Oil and Race trumps everything in the national media’s consciousness.

After all, we saw the same thing here when Fort McMurray, Alberta was destroyed by wildfires and the coverage both provincially and nationally was half hearted at best – even to including political stars of the left gloating over the “Global Warming Karma” burning Fort McMurray.

Who's actually running THIS world

Who’s actually running THIS world?

Now, the truth is that NPR’s focus in their coverage is the defense of the Environmental Terrorists who are directly responsible for the Montana fires because of their malicious resistance to the initiation of forest management practices which would dramatically reduce the incidence of these fires.

But hey, you have to consider NPR’s audience – that aging cadre of Eco-hippies, Tides Foundation zombies, and World Wildlife Federation Gaia worshipers who routinely express their desire for everyone who doesn’t agree with them to simply “Flake-off and Die”.

Gaia worshipers sacrificing to their gods

Gaia worshipers sacrificing to their gods

I guess that would be understandable amongst the MSM and their worshipers because after all, if it isn’t happening on a coast somewhere then it isn’t happening at all, because everything important involves coastal elites blowing their own horns.

After all, aren’t the victims of wildfires just “bitter clingers in flyover country“. Why on earth would any right thinking person care even a little bit about white Christian voters in flyover country?

Ferguson Fire, 2014

Ferguson Fire, 2014

It is understandable, in truth, because Midwestern wildfires are nothing more than a distraction from the worship ceremonies at the centre of coastal minds.

Of course if the wildfires are in California!  THAT’s a GLOBAL disaster! Isn’t it? Even a few minor racially motivated fires in Ferguson, Missouri, in 2014 got national coverage for months by all the MSM. No Media Bias … riiiight.

But what it is really all about is that those bitter clingers in flyover country – that would be us –  are the last vestiges of Western Christian civilization on the planet. That western civilization which gave us EVERYTHING we take totally for granted every day. What the mainstream society worships today is the 7 deadly sins.

So that’s the rest of the news, there’s more going on than hurricanes and beltway scandals, and Justin’s and Rachel’s latest antics, but who cares, right?

All the news that the MSM will never report … (especially in Canada)

Kojo No Tsuki” (Rentaro Taki), performed by Yo-Yo Ma, Michio Mamiya, & Patricia Zander, from the album “Japanese Melodies” (1990)

Iraq Qaraqosh 11. August 2017
Christian families return to Qaraqosh. Father George with the rebuilt map.

Interesting article here.  Western Progressive media (this covers just about all western media in fact) have been thunderously silent on the treatment of Christians in the Middle East outside of Israel. In the image on the right the yellow homes are the Christian homes destroyed by the Muslims. This information gap is ESPECIALLY insidious in Canada where our Progressive Socialist governments donate hundreds of millions of foreign aid money annually to the oldest Muslim terrorist organization in the world. Justin and his family recently spent his last winter Holidays with his “long time family friend and mentor” at his private Caribbean island. This person, this friend and “mentor” is the Aga Khan.

Given that friend and mentor’s position as the absolute ruler of the Nazari sect of the Ismaili Muslims, a branch of  Shia Islam,  it leads to some natural questions for any thinking Christian. One question: Is Justin Trudeau a deep cover Muslim affiliated with the Nazari sect (also known historically as “The Assassins“)? The Assassins have a very solid hold on the title of “Oldest Islamic Terrorist Organization” in history, operating since at least the late 11th century, or to give a bench mark, that was shortly after the Norman lord William the Conqueror took over in England.

The Aga Khan's Father

The Aga Khan’s Father March 16th, 1902

So, provocative conspiracy theory question: Is Justin a closet Muslim and an undercover Nazari assassin? Do we have our very own made in Canada version of Barry Obama as the closet Muslim president? Or is he just a useful idiot in keeping with Uncle Joe Stalin’s comment on “useful idiots” of the western left with his usefulness attached to his control of the Canadian Foreign Aid purse strings. Who else but Justin can annually and routinely approve hundreds of millions of dollars of Canadian taxpayer’s money in “donations” to the Aga Khan Foundation .

With reference to Taqiyya, it is reasonable to assume that everything one reads and finds at the foundation website is both true and good in an absolute and specific sense and is also a complete lie in the sense that the impression conveyed by the site is misleading in inviting ignorant unbelievers to assume that Nazari Islam is not a mortal enemy of Western “civilization”. History would seem to indicate otherwise but what do modern western progressives steeped in their cult of self worship and perversion know about history. Now they study “Social Studies”.

More seriously … given my feelings and observations about what passes for society and civilization in the western world today (based on observations of Social Media, Entertainment sources and the MSM) I think a totally solid case could easily be made that Islam is absolutely, even empirically, provably correct in their classification of “western civilization” as “evil” and requiring extermination to “cleanse” the world. One can rest on one’s laurels for only a limited time before degeneration sets in and the structure of western civ is now rotten to the core, even as the Roman empire was in Christ’s time.

I am tempted to consider the dictum “The enemy of my enemy is my friend”. Were I not already a committed Christian I suspect I would be tempted by Nazari Islam.  The question of trust remains a stumbling block. Then again, there is the Prophecy of Fatima and our Lady Maryam, a prophecy that through the intercession of Our Lady of Fatima the world of Islam will be united with the world of Catholicism and become the one religion of the one God. Imagine that … just for a moment … what a world that would be, no? What would the unbelieving secular progressive leadership of the west be able to do about 4 billion believers? Could the believers influence a change for the better? Interesting future I see – over 50% of the world’s population united against the godless bureaucracies of Mordor and the Antichrist. hmmm … We can always pray.

Ave Maryam, Gratia plena
Maryam Gratia plena Ave, ave dominus,
Dominus tecum Benedicta tu in mulieribus
Et benedictus fructus ventris tui Jesus.
Ave Maryam mater Dei
Ora pro nobis pecatoribus
Nunc et in hora mortis
In hora mortis, mortis nostrae Ave Maryam
Amén…

A daily Catholic prayer recited every morning: “In all things may the most holy, the most just, and the most lovable will of God be done, praised, and exalted above all forever. Thy will be done, Oh Lord, Thy will be done. The Lord has given, The Lord has taken away, blessed be the name of The Lord.”

Gospel of Matthew, The …

The world is always going to Hell. And sometimes the trip is more hellish than usual, especially for the poor souls caught up directly in world shaking events like a terrorist attack, or a war, or an invasion, or a long siege.

001-destruction-of-roman-temple-60-ad-fire

The Roman Temple of Claudius in what is now Colchester was destroyed in 60/61 AD by Queen Boadicea’s army.

The Roman Temple of Claudius in what is now Colchester was destroyed in 60/61 AD by Queen Boadicea’s army.  According to the Roman commentator Tacitus, 30,000 Romans lost their lives. Many of the victims had barricaded themselves inside the temple in the vain hope that they might survive the attack. Today, archaeologists regularly find a burnt layer in the earth when digging down – an indicator and reminder of the date and the event.

Queen Boadicea was a rather famous leader of one of many groups of barbarians hell bent on destroying the “civilized” Roman invaders. From a Roman point of view she was perhaps rather like a first century Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, just some uncivilized barbarian upsetting the social order because she didn’t share Roman beliefs and values. But Rome’s conduct in it’s foreign and domestic military campaigns was, by later Christian standards, both brutal and barbaric and a fitting preview of where we are going as we shed our Christian heritage for more prosaic progressive values.

001-destruction-of-jewish-70-ad-by-rome

Destruction of Jewish Temple by Roman Legions

Ten years later in 70 AD the Romans did the same thing to their enemies in Palestine, under General Titus, besieging Jerusalem and sacking and destroying the Temple of Jerusalem. An estimated 600,000 to 1.2 million died in this campaign. This vivid print on paper has a view of Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives showing the Temple with the walled city in the center. There is a soldier in the left proper foreground and women kneeling on the ground near Roman soldiers.

001-stmatthew

Saint Matthew

There happens to be an interesting scriptural prediction of the destruction of the temple in Matthew’s Gospel, chapter 24.  I have found Matthew to be, if perhaps not the most cheerful of the apostles, then certainly the most precise and explicit in recording the trials of Jesus and His response to the trials, in a grim, realistic and thoroughly modern way.

15 “So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’[a] spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let no one on the housetop go down to take anything out of the house. 18 Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. 19 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! 20 Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again. Matthew 24: 15-21

With only the slightest consideration one has no problems translating or transplanting the goings on in Palestine two millennia ago into the current newsworthy goings on both within the “holy roman catholic church” and in the secular progressive world at large which the “modern” church “appears” to be more and more embracing and accepting in the name of mercy, charity, and “ecumenicalism”, much to the joy of the MSM.

001-cardinalkasper

Cardinal Kasper

Preaching and discussing the virtues of mercy and charity in 30 second sound bites and interviews are proving to be handy and useful tools to ridicule and discredit one’s opponents. Name calling and discrediting have ever been the first and probably most useful weapons in the armory of those with weak or non-existent arguments.

When truth doesn’t support one’s position it is always and everywhere expedient to take the position that all your opponents are just plain wrong and then go about discrediting them on those grounds rather than defend one’s position with truth and facts.

Cranach_d.Ä._Martin_Luther_1528Just for a moment imagine Martin Luther with access to FaceBook and Twitter, to blogs and electronic media? Bulverism is rampant everywhere both in the secular world and withing the Church, in fact anywhere one finds people arguing one finds Bulverism raising it’s ugly leprous smiling head. Unfortunately, in order to embrace that route one must abandon any notions of concomitant justice and truth and intrinsic evil as taught by St. John Paul II, namely, that evil which is always and unchangingly evil regardless of fashion and circumstances.

Secrets-of-the-Vatican-at-night-viewWhat defines (or used to define) the Church is that it stands for something unchanging. Eternal Truth, does not lend itself to change in imitation of the fashions of the day or the desires of some of the more articulate figures of authority within and without the Church. Absent that Truth based definition of “Church” we have the MSM mantra of “Not My President”, or “Not My Pope”, or “Not My Church”, which are all really manifestations of the same “faith”, the worship of “self”.

Having surrendered Truth and justice in the name of mercy one is left with just another religious social club, the executives of which differ in no way from the executives of any other social club, or any political club for that matter. And one dare not go against the wishes of the club’s executives for fear of being expelled from the club by said executives, leaving one no choice but to start one’s own club which being “fruit of our womb” will more accurately reflect our self, and our self worship.

Where we end up at the end of this path is a place where we “belong” to a church because “belonging” lets us believe that we are “basically good people”, and coincidentally somehow better than the others, on our own terms, than those who “do not belong”.  We belong to a club that affirms our own believes, in ourselves and about others, and differs in no way from the golf club, the oil-man’s club, the sports club, the bridge club, the young liberal association, the union of public employees, the democratic party, the national socialist party the new democratic party, and so on ad infinitum.

Good times in the headlines …

Spirited Away – The Sixth Station”, Joe Hisaishi, from the film of the same name, (2008)

In the headlines – I find myself pleasantly surprised so far  – by the “Trump Transition Team”.  After a veritable tsunami of bat shit horse twaddle on all sides from the horses asses and the kissers thereof in the mainstream media about how this “team” was in total disarray, it appears to be manifestly not the case, in fact they are as wrong about this as they were unanimously and totally wrong about Trump being unelectable. (Memo to   JULIE HIRSCHFELD DAVIS, MARK MAZZETTI and MAGGIE HABERMAN, better get you resumes tuned up)

It becomes clearer daily that ANYONE who is still getting their point of view from the MSM is truly certifiable and should be locked up “for their own protection” in a “Lodge” with a higher level of care. They are patently not capable of pouring breakfast cereal from a box and adding milk so they will probably starve to death before too long if Mr. Trump is not patient with the American equivalent of the Social Services Department.

111-general-mattis

General Mattis, retired in 2013 after leading Marines for 44 years.

Meanwhile, in the real world …  Yes Virginia, There is a Santa Clause … It is starting to look like like President Trump is deadly serious about putting together the best administration the U.S. has witnessed since – since – Geeze, I haven’t been alive long enough to remember things looking this good this early in the game. There was General George Marshall of “Marshal Plan” fame but that was before my time.

I’m hoping like hell and praying like crazy that Trump can find equally qualified candidates on the economics/economy side of the equation because that whole rat’s nest is what will sink him if he can’t clean it up and get folks working again. My interest is that a strong Alberta economy is intimately linked to a strong U.S. economy regardless of what Rachel and her thugs in Redmonton believe.

It will be interesting and entertaining to see how it all plays out. One thing is for certain, better buy stocks in knickers manufacturers as there is likely to be a huge run on panties when progressives everywhere start soiling themselves in earnest.

We are told that President Trump might be considering appointing Marine General James “Mad Dog” Mattis as Secretary of Defense. So please, Mr. President, just hold off on the axe there at social Services for now and start with the Department of Education. We don’t want to precipitate a disaster of national proportions as EMS tries desperately to clean up the mess, until the (possible) new Secretary of Defense  can call in the Marines to help with the cleanup.

Yes, we are talking about Retired Marine Gen. James Mattis who appears to be in the running to lead the Pentagon for President-elect Donald Trump, according to reports.  Trump’s transition team announced on Friday that Mattis would be meeting with the President-elect on Saturday.

A person involved with the transition told Bloomberg that Mattis was being considered, along with retired Army Gen. Jack Keane, who met with Trump on Thursday (and declined the position).  Mattis declined to comment when reached by Business Insider. If this appointment materializes and if General Mattis’s career are any indicator, we would have the most effective U.S. Secretary of Defense in decades.

The former four-star general retired in 2013 after leading Marines for 44 years. His last post was with US Central Command, the Tampa, Florida-based unified command tasked with operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as more than two-dozen other countries.

Mattis, 66, is something of a legendary figure in the US military. Looked at as a warrior among Marines and well-respected by members of other services, he’s been at the forefront of a number of engagements. He led his battalion of Marines in the assault during the first Gulf war in 1991 and commanded the task force charging into Afghanistan in 2001. In 2003, as a Major General, he once again took up the task of motivating his young Marines to go into battle, penning a must-read letter to his troops before they crossed the border into Iraq.

Extremely controversial amongst all the chestless progressives inhabiting the beltway, academia and the MSM, he would nonetheless be a welcome change in a position that has been more political than defense oriented for far too long.  To Marines, Mattis is Chaos, his call sign and nom de guerre. According to interviews with more than a half-dozen officers who know him well, Mattis is an iconoclast and innovator who strove to outmaneuver the enemy on the battlefield, paralysis in Washington and the “yes, sir!” culture of the military.

Others, particularly civilians, consider the former Camp Pendleton-based commander controversial or brutish, based on statements such as one Mattis made in San Diego in 2005 when he proclaimed he liked brawling and shooting some people — like the Taliban. “You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap around women for five years because they didn’t wear a veil. You know guys like that ain’t got no manhood left anyway, so it’s a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them,” he said.

Well, shucks ma’am, I betcha if it was some tit blessed career academic feminist being slapped around every progressive howler in the universe would be praising him to the heavens. Trick question: “How many sheep can hide behind 1 sheepdog?” Yea, right, thought so. Ain’t no progressives in Afghanistan ya know.

Seriously folks,  even David Warren likes this guy… what’s not to love.

Durer; Revelation, Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse

Thinking about the Eschatological nature of my last post and the utter incomprehension in the mind of modern man of all things spiritual it is highly unlikely that any of the usual suspects, you know them, the MSM and the vast panoply of secular humanist progressives populating most corners of our establishment, have any clue what they are witnessing.

Do you suppose that any of them have any suspicions regarding the Divine nature of Trump’s unexplained and unexplainable victory yesterday. Just listen to the words of the opening song and start running folks. Anyone who is listening to the MSM explain how Trump won, after they spent a year telling us why Trump can’t win, is fundamentally unsaveable.

For, lo, a generation who venerated Bob Dylan and Joan Baez in the 60’s have been seduced by the very sins against which they protested and marched and because of which they reviled the “establishment” with the help of such bright lights as Bill Ayers, and Malcolm X, and  the Weather Underground.

They have overcome and become the very thing against which they rebelled, and like Eve in the Garden, they have eaten of the apple and become as gods.

I am sure Mr. Jobs is very proud of that marketing triumph wherever his shade now resides, a laughing lie all the way to the bank – that temporal bank, that bank of this world, which eventually and inevitably proves unable to sustain us into the next world.

Like a Rolling Stone”, Bob Dylan, from the album “Highway 61 Revisited”, (1965)

Now, having been clearly shown how it is done, and being of sound mind and body, it is time for we, the voters, in Alberta, Ontario, and even the rest of Canada (anyone there with a pulse?) to step up and deliver us from evil.  Otherwise, just BOHICA until the Mercy Vans come for us all.

Most of the chattering classes were caught completely off guard by the Trump victory. Almost all of my acquaintances were not supporting Trump, although, to be fair, there was a preponderance of support for the the “None Of The Above” choice.

They thought that given Trump’s indiscretions, impulsiveness, and unpredictability, his indelicate comments about immigrants, and the common knowledge that his election would doom the Republican Party, as well as the country, and even the world. Fact is, virtually none of them thought anyone would have to worry about the country, since they thought that he was un-electable.

WRONG!

Ballad Of A Thin Man”, Bob Dylan, from the album “Highway 61 Revisited”, (1965)

Like Dylan’s “Mr. Jones,” they had no idea what was happening here. They exist in the cultural equivalent of a guarded and gated community: suburban, professional, educated, middle-class, mobile, and cosmopolitan, people of means, insulated from the everyday lives of most white, religious, non-college educated, working class folks, the very ones whose votes put Trump over the top in Pennsylvania, Iowa, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

They are the very ones about whom Barack Obama spoke so condescendingly in 2008 while he was privately addressing a group of donors in San Francisco: “You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, … it’s not surprising then (that) they get bitter, they cling to (their) guns (and) religion …”

Justin Trudeau

So, Justin,  “May You Live In Interesting Times”.  Anything that is Good for Alberta is good for me. Trump supports the Keystone Pipeline, – Good for Alberta.

Quebec and Ontario are against the Energy East Pipeline – Bad for Alberta.  Ontario and Quebec burn less energy because of their collapsed economy and we get to sell more energy to the U.S. instead of selling it east and getting shit on by the folks in Central Canada who we are keeping alive with energy and transfer payments – Good for Alberta.

Trump is against NAFTA – Bad for Ontario and Quebec (see remark about economy above). Bad for Quebec and Ontario is definitely Good for Alberta.

Ontario and Quebec are driving the Global Warming agenda in Canada, just like the Greens did in Germany a few election cycles ago. Anyone ever checked electricity rates in Germany as a result of their anti Carbon renewable energy agenda? Did anyone involved in our Global Warming game study anything in university except Poli-Sci? How about the physics of electrical grids for starters?

Trump is against the idea of Global Warming – says it is just a hoax to funnel money to the left. Anything that rocks Central Canadian certainties is good for Alberta. They can’t prove that Anthropogenic Global Warming exists, the left just scream louder when you ask those kind of questions, but it is easy to prove where all the research money is going. Bad for Global Warming – bad for Ontario and Quebec – Good for Alberta.

While on the topic of global warming and alternative energy it is with great sadness and a strong sense of loss that I note in October of this year died a superb blogger,  Steven DenBeste, who, at his great blog U.S.S. Clueless routinely posted on things political, alternate energy, international security, and other items of note before illness, mindless vicious trolls, and Eco-bigots drove him down. I will pray for your soul, Steven, even though you did not believe in the God I believe in.

Steven was brilliant, a former engineer with a superb mind. His old blog, U.S.S. Clueless, was extremely important in the early days of blogging and through it I found many other like minded and articulate bloggers. I had several discussions with him about God and humanity. Steven was an atheist, but a reasonable one, adult, intelligent, and always willing to have friendly discussions, unlike many others I can name but won’t.

About God we agreed to disagree. I remember, after one of my complaining rants about management not understanding what they were ordering us to do, he humorously introduced me to the very apt notion of the “Magical Mile” and, like that, about most other things in life and the world we were of the same mind.

U.S.S. Clueless was hugely influential to many of us, and I am certainly not the only person he inspired to blog or helped along. It is hard to overstate the importance of his blog “U.S.S. Clueless” and the brilliance of his analysis. Sadly, that site went down in late October, when Steven’s server failed. I’d guess that Steven, along with Carl Sagan, and quite a few other heroes now know the Truth face to face.

His memory lives on every time we are faced by another left wing religious rant about global warming and alternative energy. ( Pay attention Rachel Notley  and Kathleen Wynne!  This is about the reality of Physics and how the universe works, not about some the NDP anti-oil agenda. )

Here’s a fairly concise summary of thousands of words of fact, logic and physics taken from one of Steven’s posts:

*****

… For too many people “alternate energy” is more about religion than about physics. They believe that if we are just creative enough, we can overcome fundamental physical limitations — and it’s not that easy. In order for “alternate energy” to become feasible, it has to satisfy all of the following criteria:

1. It has to be huge (in terms of both energy and power)
2. It has to be reliable (not intermittent or unschedulable)
3. It has to be concentrated (not diffuse)
4. It has to be possible to utilize it efficiently
5. The capital investment and operating cost to utilize it has to be comparable to existing energy sources (per gigawatt, and per terajoule).

If it fails to satisfy any of those, then it can’t scale enough to make any difference. Solar power fails #3, and currently it also fails #5. (It also partially fails #2, but there are ways to work around that.)

The only sources of energy available to us now that satisfy all five are petroleum, coal, hydro, and nuclear. My rule of thumb is that I’m not interested in any “alternate energy” until some one shows me how to scale it to produce at least 1% of our current energy usage. America right now uses about 3.6 terawatts average, so 1% of that is about 36 gigawatts average.

Show me a plan to produce 36 gigawatts (average, not peak) using solar power, at a price no more than 30% greater than coal generation of comparable capacity, which can be implemented at that scale in 10-15 years. Then I’ll pay attention.  Since solar power installations can only produce power for about 10 hours per day on average, that means that peak power production would need to be in the range of about 85 gigawatts to reach that 1%.

Without that, it’s just religion, like all the people fascinated with wind and with biomass. And even if it did reach 1%, that still leaves the other 99% of our energy production to petroleum, coal, hydro, and nuclear. The problems facing “alternate energy” are fundamental, deep, and are show-stoppers. They are not things that will be surmounted by one lone incremental improvement in one small area, announced breathlessly by a startup which is trying to drum up funding.

The way you can tell that a fan of “alternate energy” is a religious cultist is to ask them this question: If your preferred alternate source of energy is practical, why isn’t it already in use? Why not? Because of The Conspiracy™. The big oil companies don’t want it to happen, and have been suppressing all this live-saving green people’s energy all this time for their own nefarious purposes.

As soon as you hear any reference to The Conspiracy™, you know you’re talking to someone who is living in a morality play. That isn’t engineering any more, that’s religion. And while religion is an important part of many people’s lives, it has no place in engineering discussions.

UPDATE: There’s actually another common answer to the “Why not” question. It’s because you engineers are just too hidebound and conservative and unimaginative. If you’d just get on board and recognize how utterly cool and romantic these other ways of producing energy would be, then you could wave your magic engineering wand and make it happen.

That’s another kind of religion. It’s not a religious struggle against evil (as personified by Big Oil) so much as a religious image of paradise. If the adherents of this kind of religion can just convert enough doubters, then paradise can happen. If you just believe, we can all be saved! Hallelujah, baby! Praise Gaia and pass the biodiesel!

Thanks, but no thanks. My “conservatism” on this subject is due to my understanding of the laws of physics and the principles of engineering, not to me being hidebound and unimaginative.

Steven DenBeste had an overwhelmingly positive influence on the world despite his physical frailty, one out of all proportion to his resources. The world today is undeniably a better place for his having lived, but it is a bit dimmer today with his loss.

Periodically I have a recurring dream of a mist  and smoke covered battlefield, eerily quiet, just the sound of bullets zipping by or occasionally striking down another victim. My comrades and I keep moving forward under steady fire. One minute you are in company of friends and the next the man beside you is struck away, one after another the steady attrition continues. And still we move forward, probably until none are left – I don’t know – the dream never changes, but Steven just went down.

Now we just have to mobilize the “silent majority” in Alberta cities to oust Running Rachel and her thugs and repeal any and all anti-oil, global warming carbon legislation. We should perhaps pursue the angle of seeking damages from the parties responsible for the current debacle. Accountability … what a quaint notion, eh? Once they are put down we are back in the business of being “Open for Business” here in Alberta.

Cheers

Joe

clinging to our guns and religionThe only certainty for humanity is grim death. It is how you lived your life and the principles you stood for, that will tip the scale one way or the other on judgement day. Denying that there will be a judgement day is just more ad-hominem claptrap for people with no discernible factual base to their belief system..

Anthropogenic Global Warming …

I was sitting out on my roof this morning eating my breakfast of a four egg bacon cheese omelet and strong full caff espresso roast coffee and thinking about the day. Sunny, +14 degrees Celsius, and a gentle “warm” breeze from the south. I have no back yard since my building covers the entire lot but I do have about 3000 square feet of flat roof which makes a great lounge or patio (remember patios?).  The weather guys tell me that this is “unseasonal” for mid March in the prairies.

This perennial phenomenon of temperature fluctuation, even in the same year, always prompts chatter about “global warming” even though no one seems to talk much about it when it is -20.  And I understand the concept of global warming, or climate change as the progressives now call it since it has been conclusively demonstrated that all their models are actually inconclusive in the extreme when they posit the “warming” part, and especialy the “man made” part.

Just so we are all clear, I am not disputing the existence of climate change in any way. We have had climate change on this planet pretty much as long as there has been a climate. It probably started shortly after the planet developed an atmosphere. What turns my crank is when I am being directed to change my ways and required to pay extra taxes and costs because some long haired wanker in academia or some suite in a corner office in the legislature has decided he or she can get more resources for his or her pet project if only we can force other people to pay for it. (see endless pontification and drivel on carbon taxes and caps available anywhere progressives leave their scat).

The term “anthropogenic” means of, relating to, or involving the impact of humans on nature. Because human practices are the source of many water-quality contaminants in the ecosystem everywhere that man resides in any number,  they must be described as an integral part of the environmental setting. Agricultural runoff, urban runoff, point discharges of municipal and industrial wastes, mine drainage, septic-system effluent, landfill leachate, and contaminated atmospheric deposition are all sources of anthropogenic contamination. These sources are directly related to population density, land cover and land use, water use, and waste disposal in our environment. All of this is empirical fact and proven to be so.

The “magical mile” is the religious leap to changing the global climate by crapping in our own back yard. Make no mistake about it, this sort of thinking is only possible when one abandons all pretense of the position being “scientifically” based and accepts received wisdom along with whatever agenda comes along with this “wisdom” from the chosen wise men or women. One of my favorite techniques for discussion is to throw in percentages to give weight to whatever position I have adopted for the nonce. So in that vein I suggest that perhaps 95% of all global warming religious do not and have never understood the concept of “scientific research” as it applies to reality.

Most popular “climate science” starts out with a hypothesis which favours the progressive socioeconomic agenda and then rapidly degenerates into pseudo-scientific baffle-gab and back slapping amongst the anointed. If anyone points out that the emperor is naked they are belittled, denigrated mocked and otherwise marginalized and if that doesn’t work they are slandered, defamed, expelled, screamed down, or just plain killed (accidentally of course). You don’t believe that anyone was ever killed in an academic or governmental pogrom?  You are so innocent. Read history. Our society has been doing exactly this for thousands of years.

I would like to point out an interesting website for any readers who have not already left because of my apostasy in the hopes that they might find some other points of view than the whole global warming mythology currently worshipped by the progressive nazis of academia and the MSM.

There you will find things like the following  two paragraphs :

on Sept 22, 2008, I learned that NASA was announcing the findings from the satellite Ulysses after its 18 year voyage studying the Sun. The Ulysses passed the Sun three times. The first pass was during a solar minimum (a period of lower activity). The second pass of the Sun was during a solar maximum and the third pass during a less active period similar to the first pass (solar cycle 23).  They noticed large differences between the two minimums, that on the third pass the Sun was emitting much less energy than the first pass, and the lowest amount of solar energy ever recorded (since the beginning of modern measurement with the advent of the space program). This only confirms my suspicion that the Sun is the primary driver of the world’s temperatures and not mankind. This explains the warming of the 1980’s and 1990’s and for the last sixteen years when global temperatures have not been increasing.

I have found that natural forces, and not CO2, are the primary drivers of our global climate. Solar activity, ocean cycles (PDO and AMO), as well as volcanic activity have the largest impact, by far, on temperatures. Never in geological history has CO2 been a driver of the climate. I was surprised to learn that in 80% of the last 600,000,000 years, CO2 levels were higher than today. They were 12 times higher in the Dinosaur Period. There were also three ice ages with more CO2 than today, one had fifteen times more!

and there’s plenty more to read for any one who is looking for truth and hasn’t already drunk the koolaid.

Anyway, it’s really nice on my roof right now and to really push my rude question: “Even if everything the global warming fanatics are pushing were absolutely true why the hell would we want to stop it?  ARE THEY NUTS?  This is Canada!  6 months of winter and 6 months of bad weather!  Global Warming!  WOOHOO!!! Bring it on. If anyone is bothered by it being too hot or the sea level rising somewhere else bring them here. In case you didn’t notice we have lots of space and a very nice place to live where the government guarantees you a comfortable life until they decide to make you “die with dignity” but what the hey, we all die sometime, why not when some suit decides they can’t afford to support you any more.

Cheers
